Installation / Performance
Ceramic vessels, aluminum travois, nylon net, ‘The Colony’ (soy milk, yuca and mint-based concoction), smartphones, tape, towels, plastic buckets, water, dish soap

Dependency Demographics is a nomadic, choreographed, performative installation. Five performers operate two aluminum travois, migrating with a set of ceramic vessels through the exhibition space during the opening.

Once the company sets camp, one travois serves as a bar and the other as a bench for the audience to sit. ‘The Colony’, a soy milk, yuca and mint-based concoction, is given out to the audience for consumption.

The Colony / We become us / I am apart of that / Let’s reach a positive situation / A formal meeting / What do you miss the most?

Each performer is responsible for a different set of tasks in the scripted interactions with the audience and each other. All performers have a screen attached to their face displaying a personalized video narrative. These narratives provide the performers with instructions; channel singular and collective actions; and communicate to the audience. The footage consists of 3D, animated scans of the performers’ faces representing the five identities and states of observance, Stillness, Obedience, Violence, Reliance and Giving.

Once the roughly one hour cycle is completed, the performers gather their equipment and migrate outwards, seemingly to their next destination.

The Colony / We become us / I am apart of that / Let’s reach a positive situation / A formal meeting / What do you miss the most?
