TELEVISIONING

performance
ninety minutes

Televisioning is an act executed by the inhabitants of a housing block on the corner of Köthener Straße and Bernburger Straße, near Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park. The artist has designed a short video consisting purely of hues shifting through the colour spectrum in alternating rhythms. Each flat has been given a DVD with the video. At 19:30, after sundown, the residents are encouraged to switch off the lights in their rooms and play the film simultaneously on their TVs. Their windows will glow, at times as a unified block of shifting colour, then a dissonant and desynchronised flashing.

Many residents may take part; many may not. This is a project that reflects the community. After a month of establishing contact and intensively attempting to build connections between those living within the house and the artwork – any apartment window that may remain dark during the light show should be noted as an active decision of non-participation and therefore part of the artwork. The light show itself alternates between uniformity and disparity; two poles between which any community is negotiated.

Please take part in the documentation of this project by sharing your videos or photos of emanated light from television screens via the hashtag #televisioning or by emailing them to docu@televisioning.net.
