Sound installation
A loudspeaker set-up installed on the terrace of the Neue Nationalgalerie is set rotating. It transmits electronic audio signals that reflect the museum’s architecture. The Neue Nationalgalerie is thus placed in relation to its surroundings sonically; proportions, distances, and materials are recorded not visually, but rather auditorily. At the same time, the piece directly addresses visitors’ ears: phantom sounds, different for each listener, arise in the ear canal – an exchange between the physical outdoor space and the internal world of experience.
This experimental sound station by Jan St. Werner allows architecture to be perceived in a conscious and unconventional way, since the installation functions as a sonic amplifier of buildings and outdoor space in dialogue with visitors.

Klanginstallation
Ein auf der Terrasse der Neuen Nationalgalerie installiertes Lautsprecherinstrument wird in Rotation versetzt. Es sendet elektronische Klangsignale aus, welche die Museumsarchitektur reflektieren. Die Neue Nationalgalerie und ihre Umgebung werden so akustisch in Beziehung gebracht, Skalierungen, Distanzen und Materialien nicht visuell, sondern über das Hören erfasst. Gleichzeitig wird das Ohr der Besuchenden direkt adressiert. Es entstehen individuell unterschiedliche Phantomklänge im Gehörgang – ein Austausch zwischen physischem Außenraum und innerer Erfahrungswelt.
Die experimentelle Klangstation von Jan St. Werner ermöglicht eine bewusste und unkonventionelle Wahrnehmung von Architektur, da die Installation als akustische Verstärkung von Gebäuden und Außenräumen im Dialog mit ihren Besucher:innen fungiert.
