Installation

Suspended in space, Dominic-Laurin Kruschwitz’s piece Fragment consists of two atmospheric landscape images. These large-scale compositions are hung back to back, with bark and sticks piled underneath them. Rendered in cold, dark colours, the landscapes tend toward the painterly and the mystical in their aesthetic. The sticks and bark beneath them look real and alive. These were the raw material for the pictures, which the artist assembled from numerous scans of them. Here, nature is not perceived with all our human senses, but rather shaped through digital fragmentation and reappropriation.

This work was created as part of artistic research at the Faculty of Design and Art at Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI).

Installation

Die frei im Raum schwebende Arbeit Fragment von Dominic-Laurin Kruschwitz besteht aus zwei athmosphärischen Landschaftsbildern. Die großformatigen Bildkompositionen sind Rücken and Rücken montiert, unterlegt von Rinde und Ästen. Die Landschaften sind in kalten, dunklen Farben gehalten und von einer eher malerischen und mystischen Ästhetik. Die Rinde und die Äste darunter wirken echt und lebendig. Sie sind das Ausgangsmaterial der Bildkomposition, die der Künstler aus zahlreichen Materialscans zusammengesetzt hat. Natur wird hier nicht mit allen menschlichen Sinnen wahrgenommen, sondern durch digitale Fragmentierung und Wiederaneignung gestaltet.
