Installation

In the Neue Nationalgalerie’s sculpture garden, two machines stand facing one another, emitting laser beams that form a tubular shape of light. One beam is a cold blue, the other a warm red. This is made visible only by particles in the air – ephemeral, yet at the same time clearly perceptible. A delicate play of colours emerges, oscillating between cold and warmth, presence and disappearance. The experience changes depending on where one is standing – sometimes the gradient is predominantly blue, other times red.

For all its complexity, climate change shows up most clearly in the form of temperature changes. In a time of changing perspectives, Lucas Buschfeld’s Path invites us to ponder perception, contrasts, and shifts. Perception is not passive, but forms whatever takes shape.

Installation

Im Skulpturengarten der Neuen Nationalgalerie formen zwei einander gegenüberliegende Apparaturen einen Laserstrahl zu einem röhrenförmigen Lichtvolumen. Eine strahlt kaltes Blau aus, die andere warmes Rot. Dies wird erst durch Partikel in der Luft sichtbar – flüchtig und zugleich klar wahrnehmbar. Ein feiner Farbverlauf entsteht, der zwischen Kälte und Wärme, Präsenz und Verschwinden schwankt. Je nach Standpunkt verändert sich das Erlebnis – mal dominiert Blau, mal Rot, mal der Übergang.

Bei aller Komplexität zeigt sich der Klimawandel am deutlichsten in Form von Temperaturveränderungen. In einer Zeit sich wandelnder Perspektiven lädt Path von Lucas Buschfeld dazu ein, über Wahrnehmung, Gegensätze und Verschiebungen nachzudenken. Wahrnehmung ist nicht passiv – sie formt, was Gestalt annimmt.
