The concept of the works presented by Dan Stockholm at the Festival developed from his friendship with Syrian artist Nourhan Sondok. The two met on social media and from behind their screens in Copenhagen and Damascus, their correspondence led to the work Don’t think about death, a filmed performance taking place in Damascus and a similarly performative and participatory work taking place outside the Hamburger Bahnhof.
In spite of the dangers Nourhan has been collecting building fragments all over Damascus. The fragments are compiled from a wide spectrum of constructions: from 4000-year-old columns to newly constructed buildings destroyed in the Syrian conflict. Nourhan presented the collection in public space and the two girls Leen and Jory were invited to use the fragments of their city to create drawings directly on the ground. The filmed performance is presented in the screening program.
Prior to the Festival of Future Nows Dan Stockholm has been collecting building fragments throughout Berlin. At the Festival, visitors will be able to draw onto the pavement of the Hamburger Bahnhof’s courtyard with stones or interact in other ways with the collected material.

Das Konzept der Arbeiten, die Dan Stockholm am Hamburger Bahnhof zeigt, entstand im Austausch mit der syrischen Künstlerin Nourhan Sondok. Die beiden lernten sich über Social Media kennen, ihre virtuelle Korrespondenz zwischen Kopenhagen und Damaskus führte schließlich zu der Arbeit Don’t think about death, die aus einer gefilmten Performance in Damaskus und einer ähnlichen partizipatorischen Performance-Arbeit außerhalb des Hamburger Bahnhofs bestand.
Trotz der Gefährlichkeit der Situation in Syrien hat Nourhan Gebäudefragmente aus ganz Damaskus gesammelt. Die Fragmente entstammen einem breiten Spektrum unterschiedlicher Baukonstruktionen: von viertausend Jahre alten Säulen bis zu Neubauten, die im syrischen Konflikt zerstört wurden. Die Fragmente-Sammlung bildet ein Porträt von Damaskus, die eine der ältesten bis heute bewohnten Städte der Welt ist. Die Sammlung wurde im öffentlichen Raum ausgestellt, und zwei Mädchen, Leen und Jory, konnten die Fragmente ihrer Stadt als Malkreide verwenden, mit der sie auf den Boden zeichneten. Die gefilmte Performance ist Teil des Filmprogramms des Festival of Future Nows 2017 ∞.
Besucher*innen können mit Schuttfragmenten, gesammelt im Berliner Stadtraum, auf die Gehwegplatten des Museum-Innenhofs zeichnen oder das Material andersweitig verwenden.
