Intervention

The text-based work ES IST K EINE KUNST (IT IS [NOT] ART) makes a quiet but clear statement. The artist, who is a father and busy with care work, has decided to make a simple gesture: no object, no spectacle – just language, reflection, presence.

How does art appear in a now marked by exhaustion, care, and simultaneous challenges? What does the future mean when it is not understood as progress but as attention in the moment? The intervention reflects the ambivalence to artistic practice in a time of polycrises. The letter K that is set apart in the German title marks the negation of the work’s status as art, gesturing to omission, to the non-work. At the same time, it can be read as a trace: K as in Kritik (criticism), Klimawandel (climate change), Krise (crisis), Krieg (war), Kinder (children), Kommunikation (communication), Konflikt (conflict), Körper (body), Kosmos (cosmos), or even Kunst (art) itself. A single letter opens space for what is not said and not shown and yet affects us all.

Die textbasierte Intervention ES IST K EINE KUNST setzt ein stilles aber klares Zeichen. Als Vater mit Care-Verantwortung entscheidet sich der Künstler für eine reduzierte Geste: kein Objekt, keine Inszenierung – sondern Sprache, Reflexion, Präsenz.

Wie zeigt sich Kunst in einem Jetzt das von Erschöpfung, Fürsorge und Überlagerung geprägt ist? Was bedeutet die Zukunft, wenn sie nicht als Fortschritt, sondern als Aufmerksamkeit im Moment verstanden wird?Die Intervention spiegelt die Ambivalenz künstlerischer Praxis in Zeiten sich überlagernder Krisen: Das „K“ steht einerseits für keine – verweist auf das Auslassen, das Nicht-Werk. Zugleich lässt es sich als Spur lesen: K wie Kritik, Klimawandel, Krise, Krieg, Kinder, Kommunikation, Konflikt, Körper, Kosmos oder die Kunst selbst. Ein einziger Buchstabe öffnet Raum – für das was nicht gesagt und nicht gezeigt wird und doch alle betrifft.
